Hero of Zeanad was a mid-90s action-adventure role-playing game for the short-lived GameKid handheld videogame console. With less than 100,000 units sold worldwide, most games for the system have been lost to obscurity. Having recently cleared out the attic at my parent's house I found my old GameKid as well as some classic games like Super Super Land, Kombat Kart, and Bubble Bobble Part Deux.

Rereading the manual for Hero of Zeanad brought back many great memories of hiding under the covers with a flashlight on long car journeys to play the game as a child. One thing that struck me now is how, even without the game cartridge, the information in the manual could be used to play the game as tabletop RPG. So I have scanned in the manual as a PDF and uploaded it in the hope that others can use it to recreate the game and explore the world of Zeanad for themselves.

...

Hero...hear my words...the Fiend Lord Vorzath has spread his dark corruption across the realm of Zeanad, turning the once peaceful land into one full of dangers, and transforming the native animals into aggressive monsters.

His minions, led by the dark witch Dayan, have sealed away the five Magi to prevent them from using their power against him.

Hero, please free the Magi, defeat Vorzath, and save the realm before it’s too late.

Amazing find! If I get around to visiting my parents I'll have a look around for any old games -- I never had a GameKid, just a GameKid Color, so my game of nostalgia is Hero of Zeanad II

Ah I always wanted on of those. I can still remember seeing the sequel on the shelf in my local game shop before it closed down. Wish I'd grabbed a copy back then.

This is brilliant! I love the retro vibe!

This is excellent. I can see myself playing it solo with some rulings and a d6. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! If you do I'd love to hear how it goes and what rulings you make/rules you introduce!

this looks cute as hell, great work! can i kindly request a Pages pdf format?

You absolutely can. It feels a little wonky I think, with the stapled pages, but I've uploaded a single-page version of the PDF. Maybe I need to get a new scanner and see if that helps!
